I've seen some beautiful thatched roofs before, but I never heard of thatched finials.

The Dodson Brothers create some impressive works of art.

I did a search on the longevity of a thatched roof and the answer is below. I'm guessing that finial would be replaced 8-10 years, if it lasts that long.

When thatched properly by professionals, the major portion of such a roof (the water reed) should last 40 to 50 years. In other words, as long as any other roof. However, the roof ridge will have to be replaced roughly every 8 - 10 years.
